new galaxy s3 and already having problems

After 3 years with an iphone 3gs i finally took the plunge and bought a brand new galaxy s3 last week. And since then I've been regretting it and considering smashing the damn thing into a million pieces

It's the 16 gb t999 model,T-Mobile version. I bought it online. Unlocked and ready to go. The only thing the retailer did was enter the factory unlock code. Otherwise the phone is as it was from the factory. No third party apps, no one messing with the software. Nothing. I'm in canada using Bell phone company. Now here is the problem:

1) The wifi is absolute garbage. It can't connect to most wifi networks including the one in my home! It gives me the "Network disabled. Poor connection" message, even though the network is strong and my iphone can connect easily into it. At certain places, like Pizza Pizza that have free wifi, i found the phone can connect without giving me this error message. But instead, it immediately crashes and reboots the system. And this leads to the second problem.

2) The phone keeps restarting itself several times a day. If I open an internet browser, it crashes and restarts after like 10-15 seconds. If i try to tap into a wifi and it doesn't give me the poor connection error, it also crashes and restarts. Sometimes it even crashes while checking some of my pics. Heck it even crashed once when i was doing nothing but scrolling through the homepage.

I tried a factory reset and that didn't solve anything. Then I updated the firmware. The phone originally had the LG1 firmware. When I connected to Kies yesterday I updated to the LH2 firmware, and both problems are still there and haven't been solved. What can I do? And no, I'm not using an SD card.

I went from an iP4S to the S3 had a lot of trouble with what I'd call growing pains but nothing like that. Mine worked fine. Assuming you haven't rooted the phone I'd say you got a dud. I'd just return it for another.

My WiFi is also really weak. Even on my unversity's fast and powerful campus WiFi, I'm only getting 2 and at most, 3 bars all the time. My asus netbook and consistently get 4 or 5.

Hi droidgalaxy,

I have the international version one which I bought as soon as the phone was available. I have 2 different wireless routers in my house, 1 at work, several in University (cafeteria, labs and etc) and I have tried it also on another 5-10 wireless networks -> so I can safely say that my SGS 3 wireless is flawless, even with the stock utility. No loss of signal, no restarts, no dropping of bars and etc.

My SGS3 has never restarted itself and for the past many months I had to take the battery out (hard reset) only once when it got stuck on a fake application of the Dark knight game. I am a pretty serious gamer, trying most of the "heavy" graphics and processor applications in googleplay.

I really do not have anything to complain about the phone.

I suggest you to back up everything on your pc and do factory reset if this doesn't help -> Return the phone and get a new one -> Your experience with this phone is NOT Normal.

P.S. My niece has an Iphone 3gs and I cannot believe that you are not speechless from the SGS3 compared to the dinosaur IP3. My Opinion: The only phone which has similar to SGS 3 experience is HTC One X. All these Iphone 4, 4s, 5b, 5K, 6M and so on are phones for dummy users who do not like customization and advanced settings, who are like "press this and it opens" (No offence intended for you or anyone else in this forum).

I already did the factory reset. And it didnt work. I like the phone a lot. but I can't live with it if it keeps restarting everytime i touch it and if it can't connect to wifi networks.

It sounds like pretty much what some others have said, you have a dud, it happens unfortunately. Exchange the phone, if it's not rooted it should be covered.

I also have the tmo version, wifi is awesome, never had it restart. I hope you can get it exchanged and find out why so many of us love this phone. Good luck to you

Sucks to hear this, but it sounds like you have a defective phone. My S3 is the most amazing piece of technology I've ever had.

I have the international version of the S3 and I have about 16 different wifi networks saved on the phone and I have absolutely no problems connecting to them or ever had. ( usually full bar / 90% full )

Maybe, as suggested, there is a fault with the phone. :(
