New Gmail App does not work properly (inbox is totally empty...)

Ever since Gmail upgraded the inbox to different categories, I have trouble with Gmail app on my Android phone. I chose not to use the categorized inbox and only checked Primary in my Gmail settings. I did the same thing on my phone. Now the default inbox shows no message at all. When I brought up the menu, under inbox there is only one option: Priority Inbox. If I click that, it shows most of my emails. However, unlike my other accounts which have not been upgraded, there is no plain inbox option any more, and I can't change the default inbox setting on my phone. I get no notification when I receive new messages. Does anyone know how to fix the problem? It's really annoying. I have over 200 filters in my Gmail. I don't need the stupid categorized inbox service they are offering right now. I just want to have the plain inbox back. Thanks!
