UPDATE BELOW IN OTHER POST : Looks like 3D Nav for USA users! & Update minus 3D Nav for UK users!

Check your Android Market , New update released for Google Maps which I'm testing now

Download the Latest release of Google Maps , and never carry a paper map again.

new features in Google Maps:
*GPS Navigation
*Layers - My Maps , Wikipedia, Transit

Google Maps also Includes:
*Business Listings
*Driving / Transit / Walking directions
* Street View
Traffic Latitude

Version 3.2.1

Ok Guys & Girls :)

So I've tested it out and it doesn't seem to be an update for 2.0 like navigation {FOR ME} BUT I think I know why! It's because it's available for the USA only {Nav option} ! & I'm based in Good old Great Britain , London to be Exact :p A bit of digging lead me to this aswell: Official Google Mobile Blog

So USA users! Grab Google Maps off the Market now and hopefully you should have the full experience , with 3D Nav and layers :D but unfortunately for now you can't search a destination via the Voice search yet. This is only available for 2.0

UK users , This Nav service is not available in the UK YET & this isthe reason why we don't have this option, However the update does give us Layer options and Transit option which for me showed my local London underground station in red meaning "Central line". Nifty feature! Still worth Downloading! Try it yourself!

Pic's coming soon! Maybe a Video but on the UK version theirs not really much to show like Nav you lucky USA users ;)

From the Official Google Mobile Blog:
Happy Thanksgiving Travels: Google Maps Navigation now available for Android 1.6

Monday, November 23, 2009 11:00 AM

A few weeks ago we launched Google Maps Navigation (Beta) as a free feature of Google Maps on Android 2.0 devices. Today we're expanding availability of Google Maps Navigation to devices running Android 1.6 (Donut) and higher, such as the T-Mobile myTouch 3G and the G1.

Google Maps Navigation is an internet-connected GPS system with voice guidance and automatic rerouting, all running on your mobile phone. Using Google services over your phone's data connection brings important benefits to GPS navigation users, like using Google search (typed or spoken) to enter your destination; fresh map, business, and traffic data; and satellite and Street View imagery along your route.

This release also includes the new Layers feature, which lets you overlay geographical information on the map. View My Maps, transit lines, Wikipedia articles about places, and more.

So if you're traveling this Thanksgiving, you'll be able to enjoy the benefits of an internet connection, whether it's free Wi-Fi at the airport or Google Maps Navigation in your car.

If you have a phone running Android 1.6, you can download an updated version of Google Maps from Android Market to use Navigation today. Google Maps Navigation is in beta and is currently available in the United States. Some features of Android 2.0 are not available on Android 1.6, for example, the ability to use the "navigate to" voice command as shown in our demo video. However, you can still create a shortcut that will allow you to launch Navigation and start getting directions to a specific place from your current location with just a single touch from your home screen. For example, you can create a "Home" shortcut to quickly navigate home, no matter where you are. Just use the "Add" menu item from the home screen, then choose "Shortcuts", then "Directions." Please visit our forum to give us feedback, or our Help Center to get help using Google Maps Navigation.

Just checked my phone and saw it had an update for one of my apps...and found it to be this very update you are talking about...

Doesn't seem like there's much interesting stuff in the UK version, though...

Oh well...

Lucky USA Androidians though :D

I think Eventually this 3D Nav will come to the UK it's just a matter of time really :)

Hey guys...
Been racking my brain on this issue. Does the navigation support bluetooth? i cant figure out any way to use it with bluetooth in my car. everything else works with bluetooth.... Any ideas????
Also when i plug the charger in, the sound for the navigation goes away as well

weird I can't find google maps in the market anymore on my Eris. It used to show up there even though it came preinstalled. Wonder what this means.

The Eris runs 1.5 right? If that's correct , Google maps may not show because this new version does not support 1.5 maybe? :)

*WARNING* my fellow androidians with rooted g1's, mt3g's, etc.

i read somewhere that this update is missing the navigation voice directions for 1.6 devices. so if you're rooted and already had navigation working i wouldn't install the update

Just tested again because of your post.

Works just fine on my Cyanogen 4.2.5 rom G1.

It is not missing voice.
