Just updated to the new Hangouts app. It doesn't work with my Maxx while driving. When a new text comes in it no longer announces the message and asks if I want it to read it.

That sounds right. That feature has only worked with the stock messaging app.

When we get KitKat, perhaps that will change.
 
I'm a bit disappointed with the app. I expected all conversations to be a in one place. The reality is that I have two threads for my wife. One for Hangouts one for SMS. I wish they were both in one thread. Smh
 
I guess that should not be unexpected for an app written for the kitkat Api running on jelly bean...
 
I had to double check, I have Hangouts disabled. My read-out-loud text thing works, I used it this morning.

I don't like that Goog is forcing this networking/social media thing as hard as they are. The ONLY reason I don't have Google+ disabled is I like the photo backup. But I have everything else turned off. I don't have a Facebook account. I do have Twitter but using an anonymous name not my own.

Does it read your Hangouts messages out loud?
 
I've been using the new Hangouts app as well. I noticed the same as you. I installed the new Hangouts app on my friends SG SIII and the video call works perfectly. Interesting, isn't it. Oh well, like doogald said, when the update rolls around (which should be soon, at least we know it's coming) it should be fixed.
 
Can anyone confirm they received the actual 2.0 update from the Play Store. I currently have the side-loaded app on my phone and would like to uninstall the updates and take the Play Store version when it's available.

Yeah, I just uninstalled updates and tried to take the market app. Although it still says 2.0 with SMS as it updates, SMS is still not installed. :mad: This is silly. Why have an app say that it's updated that is NOT UPDATED!?!? Come on Google! Get it right!

Back to my side loaded version. :mad:

I never sideload these apps. They'll come when they come.

I have no issue with sideloading apps, I just haven't done it yet on my MAXX. Did it all the time on my OG DrOID and my Bionic but haven't felt the need yet on the MAXX.

I updated last night. Everything I use it for, it works...
 
My brother and I both got Hangouts 2.0 last night via Google Play and everything works. I have a MAXX on VZW and he has a Note 3 on at&t.
 
I got the "official" version last night as well. Now they need to update it again and give the option to combine SMS and Hangouts threads.
