What does it really mean for the end consumer (the regular non-geek)? is this something we need to go an fetch and do something with it??

Wow, support for the modding community. Google won't be happy.

Maybe this will get me my flip clock back :O

It's "just" a layer between the hardware and your shiny user interface and applications. It would be nice if the community gave back and contributed code to HTC. Some performance improvements would be nice, especially in CPU and IO scheduling department. I'd kind of like to see how ck's experimental ********* scheduler would perform on a Hero. Too bad I lack the time to play with this.

Unlikely, it's the very bottom layer of the software. The flip clock is part of senseui which is the top layer, with android sandwiched between them.

Now, if HTC would only release the senseUI source as well... (never gonna happen).
