New Hero user...

Hello People,
My Hero turned up yesterday (finally). Now i don't seem to be able to find out if there are any updates for it.

Its an English Sim Free Hero.

Phone Info...

Baseband Version : 63.18.55.06U_6.35.04.25

Kernel Version : 2.6.27-a5504199htc-kernel@and18-2 #521

Build Number : 1.76.405.6 146733 CL#47214 release-keys

Software Version : 1.0.0.A6288

Everything is up to speed versions-wise apart from the Build Number (or ROM).

The latest for the unbranded UK Hero is 2.73.405.5 and it can be grabbed from the below link -

ROM Upgrade for HTC Hero_2.73.405.5

Installing this will wipe all the data/setting from your handset, so make sure you back up your data before adding this upgrade. Something like MyBackup from the Android Market is good for this.

Grab MyBackup from the Apps Market and you can then save data such as contacts etc to your SD card or online, then when you have updated the ROM, you can install the app again and copy the data back to your handset.

One think, I think there can be issues if you try and copy you text messages back to your Hero after the update, as the data is stored in a different format.

not fussed about losing texts, its contacts & all the other stuff i have on there i'm worried about. I've downloaded that app & it seems pretty good, might actually buy it

Thanks for posting this. I too will be in this situation so thanks for the heads up.

Only niggle is getting my texts / contacts from my N97 backups / my current phone...

Does copying contacts onto the sim card (from my nokia) and then back onto HTC Hero work?

Worked perfectly, my only issue is my APN settings arn't working & all the ones i have tried arn't working.

i'm with O2. have i missed something??
