New Icon & Tabs: Google Maps 15th Birthday

Google Maps just got a big 15th birthday update with new UI tabs and features:
Explore, Commute, Saved, Contribute, Updates

The icon got updated too:

It looks a bit... YouTube-ish to me. Which is weird. Considering how many people I see watching YouTube while they drive and how dangerous (and illegal) it is!

Ah, I'd spotted that the icon had changed with today's update, but not opened it to see what else has changed.

I guess it's consistent with their other recent branding, though I'm not sure that the colour pattern running around the "dropped pin" shape improves readability or at-a-glance recognition. And you now need to click on the little "account icon" to get to the app's settings.
