Root New ics leak .214

I just flashed the kernel only. It seems too idle better. I bet that was the battery/heat issues. Matts utility has the option to return to .211 kernel also but hes reporting that his battery life has profited on the new one.

Okay, it may be just me, but I couldn't follow/understand matt's directions because how it was written was weird to me. Can someone please post a simpler guide to flashing this kernel? I just couldn't read and understand it. Maybe im just too tired, but please someone make a simpler guide to flashing it

Def loving ics, but battery life has taken a huge hit. Doing all the same things as before, and usually down to 80 or 70% by the time i leave gym first thing in the morning before work. Im not good enough to play with leaked updates, so is it likely this will eventually be a full rollout? I can wait...just hoping this is eventually fixed or improved

Moving this to the root section as this isn't something the average Joe should be trying. :)

Ok thanks. I posted in non root because you do not have to be rooted to do this. Its a simple procedure to flash the .214 boot image.

No worries, I understand completely! The general rule of thumb is if it involves "hacking" at all, go with the root section.

:)

So far this new kernel is pretty sweet! My phone acquires data much faster after booting up. Its snappier, and battery life does "seem" to be improved, but its a bit too early to be certain yet. I'm running the hot plug governor which imho is much better than interactive.

ok :)
download the utility from the llink in my op
extract the files to desktop
enable usb debugging on your phone(power phone off> press both volume buttons and power >select ap fastboot)
launch utility
connect phone to computer via usb cable
select option 3 from the utility (flash .214 boot image)

reboot phone :D

i reccomend doing a cache / delvic cache wipe after booting up

Is this the non-root way?

First off thank you matt for this wonderful update. Update is geared for battery performance. You MUST BE TOTALLY STOCK on ICS 211 for this to work (there are ways to do this if you are rooted and on custom ROM but these directions are for those who are totally stock). Download the update from here:

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/15093625/Blur_Version.6.16.211.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip

Put the zip file in your sd card. Boot into motorola recovery (hold volume up and volume down while turning phone on). When you see the android logo with the red triangle hit both volume keys. Choose the option that says install from external card. Pick the file you just moved to your sd card. Let the update do it's thing and you are done. To double check this worked under about you should see version .214 and build date 6-29.

Merged with the thread in the root section for the same reason as listed above. This still, technically, voids a user's warranty and should not be attempted by the average joe.

Should also be noted this is different than my instructions. This way will give you the full update not just the kernel. However, most are just flashing the kernel because its mostly all the update is and its easier to flash back to stock.

Does this work if your already rooted. I did all of this

download the utility from the llink in my op
extract the files to desktop
enable usb debugging on your phone(power phone off> press both volume buttons and power >select ap fastboot)
launch utility
connect phone to computer via usb cable
select option 3 from the utility (flash .214 boot image)

reboot phone

and I'm still at build 6/14

Using this method will only change your kernal. Old kernel was dated 6/14. New kernel is dated 6/29.

Does the utility say it was successful?

No it doesn't,

I went into AP Fastboot brought up the utility then hit 3 hit enter and got a few okays then rebooted I still have the 6/14 I am rooted does that matter

I got it to work it says now Kernel Fri June29 22.33.44cdt 2012 sound right

probably not without restoring the old version first.

Kelmar you are spreading some horrible misinformation. No offense but first this is not hacking the phone at all. My instructions and download links are for stock non rooted phones using the phones own recovery options. Second this IS the OTA and you will DEFINITELY receive any future updates using this method or any other STOCK update method (IE my previous post about updating to ICS before the OTA was pushed out).

Getting into stock recovery.

Turn phone off.
Hold power, vol down, and vol up buttons for about 20 secs.

Then the recovery menu will pop up. Navigate with vol down button, select with vol up button.

Hope this helps.
