Help New issue: Proximity detector

How can I shut off the roximity detector for my phone, as I cannot get to the "Keypad" or "Seakerphone" buttons. It is acting like it is against my face & won't allow.
Looked through all settings & apps.

It's a defective detector, it has to be replaced.

Actually, it was just a dirty screen. I have an oily complexion (45 years old) & once cleaned, it operated just fine.

I got a nice bluetooth ear thingie... No issues, now.

Yes, I've found my Commando 4G to be a bit sensitive to anything on the screen as well. Really confuses it if you leave any sweat/oil on it.
