Hello,

I am an iphone 4 user at the moment but seriously considering jumping ships. I am super interested in the motorola atrix that will be out soon. One thing I saw on their website is that the baseband is locked and won't accept custom Roms. What does this mean? Is it not rootable? Coming from the jailbreak scene, I would think that this is an effort to stop rooting but not sure. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

sorry if I posted in the wrong place as this is post numero uno

Welcome to the forums!

You posted in the right place - and we don't get uptight if you post in the wrong place, we just move it for you. If you ever need something moved or one of your posts deleted or someone is hassling you, just hit the !Report button next to the thread in question.

We'd rather get too many !Reports than too few. ;)

As sitlet said - there's a cadre of developers and hardcore types that tend to not take that sort of challenge (locked bootloader) lying down, and they hang out at xda-developers.com (as well as some of them around here).

When they finalize the procedure (I haven't seen them miss one that they've tried for yet) to root, the root subforum here for the atrix will be over that with the proper links to XDA (so you don't stumble in the dev-only areas where things get too confusing for users).

And, Motorola had this to say recently, maybe they're finally getting the picture:
