My name is Steve and I want to take this opportunity to say 'hello' to everyone and to ask a question. I'm very interested in upgrading to an Android phone, but know next to nothing about them. My family has been with AT&T for a very long time, and I am reluctant to change carriers since we have not had any serious issues with them. However, I was reading the fine print on the info page for a phone I'm interested in and saw this: "Firefox browser use with AT&T Mobile Broadband requires Tethering Plan." Is this common? Is there a way around this extra fee?

this is just saying that if you use the ATRIX laptop dock, you have to have the tethering plan. and no there is really no way around it yet.

Tethering is about the same regardless of what device you use. With At&t and there new limited data plans, it would be hard to tether unless you can grandfather an old unlimited data plan(Blackberry or Iphone).

That said, I am on the $15/200mb plan and spend 99% of my time on wifi, so my data usage so far as been 5mb (dec) and 25mb (jan). My Dell Streak is not restricted from use all it's features.

Welcome to the family.

You got me. I'm looking into the Atrix.
So - if I don't use the laptop dock, I don't have to use the tethering plan? What about the Multimedia Dock? It does pretty much the same thing, but on a television.

Both of my daughters have iPhones and they're trying to talk me into getting one. But I don't like the idea of having to go thru iTunes for updates and such.
By the way, I've always liked Dell computers. How do you like the Streak?

I love my Streak, even if it is an outdated OS with At&t. The sceen size and speed is amazing coming from a Blackberry Curve (2 yrs old). Not that the curve wasn't a good device in it's time, but no wifi or 3g and a really tiny screen.

It is really nice to see pictures in emails, be able to click on a link and see a webpage come up fast. The various apps are nice, but I am generally still limit my use to Email, Web Browsing, WunderRadio, Google Maps and a few misc apps.

As far as the fruit fans are concerned, all I can say is I had a Sony X10 with a 4" screen for 29 days and it was too small, Steve Jobs said the Iphone is the prefect size during the Ip4 release, wonder if his "facts" will change this year with allot of the other devices being larger.

Also, most of the devices can be had for much less than a IP at resellers, my Streak was $99 at Bestbuy, there are allot of deals at Amazon, Wal-Mart, Wirefly, too, but in the past IP sells were very limited keeping the price up.
