New model/revision SGH-T589W. GB update incoming?

I have been working on creating a customized kernel for this phone (no luck on that front..) but on a lark I went back to opensource.samsung.com to see if maybe Samsung had uploaded an updated package. What I found was the sources for a mysterious device, the SGH-T589W! I don't know much about the SGH-T589W, except that a) it runs Gingerbread and b) it uses a Bluetooth 3.0 stack.

What are the chances that the SGH-T589 will get a GB upgrade to go with the new phone? Dunno. There's no other info about the T589W, so it could either just be a model rev of the T589 with GB pre-loaded, or an entirely new model (Gravity Smart II). If it's the former, then maybe we'll get an official GB release!

how far are you in progress on the froyo kernel?
i've made a zimage but i'm scared to flash it lol.
i'm home for another week for surgery so i've been tinkering some more.
wish i could understand more about the recovery porting.

Don't worry about bricking the phone. The worst you'll do is a soft-brick, which you can fix easily with Odin.

I'm currently wrangling with Samsung Open Source Release Center (OSRC) trying to get a working touchscreen driver. They tried to play the proprietary information card, but apparently they didn't notice that the driver is under GPL and so they are required by the license to provide their customizations.

If I can get a working touchscreen driver, I can use the other proprietary Samsung drivers and then try some tweaks. One that I want to put in is finer-grained options for CPU speed scaling. Ideally, I'd like to get a 2.6.35.7 or newer kernel onto it.

This worked for me to root it. But now I've borked my phone and can't find the original firmware to restore it and start again. Anyone know where to get the factory image for this phone?

I tried compiling the kernel off samsung open source site, and replacing the bcm4329.ko file on my phone with the one generated from the kernel compile. Still getting a wifi error. I'd really appreciate some help figuring this out
