I have a archos archos gmini xs202s 20gb mp3 player.
its died. [RIP]

looking for a new mp3 player and i dont really like apple but im currently borrowing my sisters old nano (8gb the older sq ones. 3rd gen )

sad to say but I really like it. its a nice device, quick and easy, i dont like itunes but i used winamp to transfer stuff over to it last night.

i think i could live with owning a apple device now i know i can use winamp. I need to find a new player decent quality nice and easy to use, can you think of any for a reasonable price.

i might be getting a 5th gen 8gb for my birthday. can you suggest other players that might be a good alternate in terms of sound and quality and size for aound the same price.

just incase im missing something.

Why not use your phone? Battery issues? :)

yeah defo i was going to get a bigger mem card for the hero and use it, the sound quality with bose headphones is fine and i like it, once 2.1 comes out im sure the music player will be better aswell but i cant have my phone die because ive been listening to music, even on my previous SE phone i didnt use it for music.

I will take a look at the ZUNE HD in the net after work and see what i think. i was thinking about the itouch if im getting a nano the touch is only

i really like the look of the zuneHD, the price difference is not alot at all.
i dont need the extra 8gb but for a extra

They don't sell it in UK, only in America, so you'd have to get a new import. Means you can't try before you buy, all I can say is trust me! Check some youtube vids maybe:

I have had the Zune HD since it came out, and I love it! If you do wind up getting a zune, take a look at incipio.com for cases and other accessories, they have some pretty ballin stuff!

Mate, have you seen the ZuneHD? Its the BEST mp3 player out, by far.
lies :-p
Ive got the zune hd and the ipod touch... Ipod touch is soooooo much nicer.

Lekky what makes you think the zune hd is the best? what makes it so much better? I can think of two things that it can do that an ipod cant.... hd radio and unlimited music for 14.99 a month and you get to keep ten of the songs as your own.

one more thing... The zune software for the computer always errors out and closes and if you go look on zune forums youll see it is a common problem. maybe the new updates will help it though....

I can think of a lot more things that the ipod can do that the zune cant.
built in speaker, fb, more then just a handful of games, bigger screen... just to name a few. oh btw youtube also works on the ipod touch and it doesnt on the zune hd...

Yeah, but OP said he wanted an mp3 player.

Microsoft Zune HD vs. Apple iPod Touch
Taken soley as a personal media player, the Zune HD outshines the iPod Touch in many ways. It’s lighter, brighter, well-engineered, solid, and if you want to pump 720p movies to your home high-def set, the Touch simply cannot compete.

I have an android phone (so does OP i'm assuming) therefore I have no need to apple apps. I just would not buy them. So I'm disregarding apps from the equation, and bringing down to which is the best mp3 player.

The desktop Zune software is simply gorgeous, honestly compare it to that ugly stick called itunes an theres no comparison, not even close.

The actual interface on the zune itself is amazing, gorgeous, brilliant. Way more sexy than the ipod touch. Everything just flows so well. Do I need to mention OLED?

The zune hardware is also sexier, its small, thin, light, and sexy. Better battery life too.

To be 100% honest, as much as I hate iTunes, the Zune software is even worse. What the hell was M$ thinking? Windows Media Player would've been the perfect app for handling your Zune library.

Anyways, with that out of the way, here's my take on it:

- Look at what you do and where you go, and where you'll be listening to your music. What will you have with you?

In my life, there's only a few occasions where I'm listening to music:

- At home. I just play my music off my HDD or stream it on Pandora.

- In the car. I've got a old Zune 30 hooked up into my car's usb port. Nice mp3 player should I ever decide I want to actually take it out of my car, but I never do. Holds my entire collection, plus playlists. I could put movies / vids on it but would never watch them. If I'm ever in the mood for random music in the car, stream Pandora over bluetooth from my Droid. No radio stations here :)

- Waiting. Waiting for service (like car maintenance) or if I'm out somewhere with an hour to kill, etc. Perfect time to throw on the Motorokr bluetooth headphones and listen to music on my Droid, or maybe some podcasts via Google Listen. I might even play a game or browse the web at the same time. Look at all the iPhones envy my multitask.

- Working out. I usually don't keep my phone on me when I'm weightlifting, running or warming up before a game of basketball, and I definitely don't want to carry around anything bulky. Just makes movement awkward. For this ONE AND ONLY situation I go with a modded apple device: an old-gen shuffle. Specifically, shufflephones.

I don't need to keep anything on my hip / arm / pocket / shoe with these things. This used to be my dedicated music device but my Droid + Motorokr has sufficiently replaced them.

- Spontaneous. Random times when I don't expect wanting to listen to music, I always have my phone on me and my Zune in my car. Even if I bought an iPod, there's no guarantee I'll have it on me when that random moment comes up. 99% of the time I've got my phone with me tho.

I gotta say, the days of dedicated devices is coming to an end. E-book readers seem to be the last one-trick-pony device people actually buy, and once technology matures and color e-ink displays become affordable you can bet tablets will replace e-book readers, netbooks and maybe even small laptops. It's all about "how many things can I squeeze into this one device" nowadays.

I will agree if all youre looking for is an mp3 player and you dont care about the apps, Zune would be a good idea since its a little bit cheaper. The Zune software.... I recently updated the zune softare and its made it A LOT better. Its not erroring and force shutting it down anymore. However I still think its not as user friendly as Itunes. I would give Zune network 4 of 5 stars, but only because I love how when you click on an artist it kind of lays a skin over the window of a picture of the artist and if youre listening to music through the Zune program on your computer, it kind of has an automatic screen saver of whatever artist youre listening to at the time as long as your comp seems to be idled... if that makes any sense :-p
I would give itunes a 4 out of 5 because of how user friendly it is.

Another thing the fella who posted this can think about is... You have an Android device so you obviously willing to take a chance with a product that is new and is getting better everyday. With the Zune hd its the same thing... Its Zunes first touch screen mp3 player, so its still very new and over time it should only get better :-)
but until then Im going to stick to my guns and so the Itouch IMHO is still just a little bit better :-p

This Android based mp3 player should be out before too long: Creative Zii

an android powered player sould be good. esp as i have a few months to go yet before i get anything.

the apple i have at the mo works so i could keep that for abit longer until i find something i really list. the zune is really nice from what ive seen about it.

I have my phone for apps and games if i wana play things. so im not bothered by apple app store or zune apps.

ive also seen some nice creative places and ive been told sandisk are also good and for the actual price difference between (apple zune) and (sandisk/creative/ other ) i think the other might be better.

from what ive read aswell most if not all players that have playlist support will sync with winamp even apple ipod/touch syncs with winamp...
