Help New N7 - wonky accelerometer

So I have bought a new N7 from Google Play (my other one has the raised screen issue).

The new one also has a slightly raised screen but not enough to worry about at the moment.
Unfortunately, it turns out it also has a wonky accelerometer.

I first noticed that I was struggling to get the screen to rotate but I have just reinstalled Asphalt 7, started a race and the car is just steering right and driving against the barriers.
I have to turn the device about 45 degrees to the left to get the car to go straight.

So is there any where to calibrate the accelerometer or have I got another duff device?

I have rooted the device. Could this have possibly caused the problem and if so would returning it to stock fix it?

I have no idea if this will apply for your situation, but I was having similar issues in the Google Sky Map app. When I'd point to the sky, the thing would bounce all over the place.

I downloaded an app called "Compass" and it has a calibration tool. You open the app, run calibration, and you have to move your phone/tablet around in a figure 8 pattern. This fixed my issues.

Again, no clue if this will help for your issue, but maybe worth a try.

Strangely enough, that DID work.
Screen was rotating normally and the cars were driving straight in Asphalt.

So removed compass, restarted the N7 and it's wonky again.

So I have phoned Google and I'm getting it swapped. At least the compass trick will tide me over til the new one comes :)

Well as much as I love the N7, I'm giving it one more chance and if the 3rd is faulty then I'm going for full refund.

3 strikes and you're out.

I've had two Galaxy Nexus and an S3 with the same issue. I have to use Compass in order to get the Sky map to work correctly. Seems weird it's happened on three devices for me.

Maybe sky map is the problem in your case?
I installed that on my phone some time ago and had problems with it, never used it since.

Wish I could find an app that can permanently calibrate the accelerometer or gyroscope or magnetomametorer or whatever it's called.

The compass app shows it possible to affect it system-wide, if only while it is installed, so there should be something that can do it?

Found an app on Play called SensorTester that claims to calibrate the accelerometer.
There are loads of different sensor tests and I don't even know what sensor is screwed up but I tried it anyway it did sort the problem, til the app was closed tsk.

Tried more apps, a few compass ones, a few spirit level ones.

With everything, the calibrate tools only seem to work until I either close the app or start another similar app.
It is WAY off.
I have also noticed that with ALL the compass apps, even after calibration the north is completely in the wrong direction.
They ALL point in exactly the same direction but that direction is actually SE in real life.

Ugh... frustratingly enough, I've got the same problem. My N7 doesn't properly detect rotations, and only does so when held at a 45 degree angle. (So rather than holding it perfectly vertically, and then attempting to rotate it, I have to tilt it so that it's facing upwards at 45 degrees, then rotate it to portrait/landscape). This requires too much precision for a mere mortal like myself. Anyone know if N7's purchased online be exchanged at a local retailer?

Damn, I thought I escaped this issue, but I guess I was wrong. I I just tried Google sky, and it is completely worthless. I am bummed now.

Actually, people have reported accelerometer problems with Google sky since before the N7.
Seems to have issues, that app. I would certainly try it with other apps or games.

Google sky works great on all my other devices though. :(
