New Nexus S 4G user

Just got my new phone tone and love it. Switched from the Evo 3D and this phone is way better.

What is is about the NS4G you like better? I am in the middle if making a phone decision in a few weeks. I probably take the decision way to seriously, but hey, im going be stuck with my decision for a while.

I just got my Nexus S 4G. Looked at the EVO 3D and didn't like it. Nexus is thin and lightweight, not a slab. I'm also impressed with speed. It ranks right up there with dual core phones. That may change if icecream is optimized for dual cores as rumors have it. But, the Nexus will have icecream before the EVO 3D. It is Googles flagship phone and has no provider bloatware, just straight Android.

He he. When I got my Nexus S 4G, I couldn't afford any other phone, and Best Buy had it for free. So I paid taxes on it, and went with an unlimited Data Plan from Sprint.

Regardless, I did have a chance about two months ago to play with the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (my first Android experience) and the Nexus S just seemed like smaller version of it.

I am thrilled. HTC seemed like a really interesting device, but the slightly curved and circley Nexus S won my heart. Right now wouldn't trade it for anything.

Kind of in topic here, so thought I would jump in.

Im about to order my NS4g and have spend the last several weeks researching phones to decide what I want between the NS4G, Evo 3d, and the Photon. In my opinion the Nexus is the best. The only concern I have had is the slow data speeds everybody in this thread describe. Well, I have spent time with each of these at three different Sprint stores (they didnt have connection boosters or anything in the stores some people say they have) and here are my observations.

I did many "speed tests" with each of these phones at multiple locations and the nexus and 3vo are usually about the same. The photon usually slightly out performs the nexus, but not always.

I hear those tests are not that accurate, which I would agree with since they would jump all over the place. So I began downloading the same apps from the market at the same time, and also items off the browser at the same time and found that there was no way to predict which would finish first. I only did this with the photon vs. the nexus, but honestly it was about half and half between which finished first. So I am not sure what all the complaining is about the nexus data speeds. Honestly, both these phones were pretty slow, but that is a network issue not the phone.

Just so you know, I only live in a 3G area, so could not test the 4G between the two.

The same performance when downloading, the clearer screen, and the price make it a no brainer. And about the lack of dual core, could not tell a difference between the phones, in fact the nexus seems snappier. Although that may chagne with ice cream sandwich, but who knows? The fact is at this point the only reason I would want a dual core processor is just to be able to tell people "hey, my phone has a dual core processor".

This is just my two cents, and my experience. Perhaps people would argue the point, but can't deny what I have seen with my own two eyes.

Back on subject, I too with be a new Nesus S 4G user, for the above reasons.

Funny thing is a DUAL CORE phone makes calls at the same speed single cores do...LOL

I too switched from an evo 3d to the ns4g.

I liked the evo 3d alot. But it was a brick not only in my pocket but in my hand too. I'm big on ergonomics, and the evo 3d was just big.

I didn't care for the 3d aspect, just liked the phones other capabilities. It was lightning fast, had an awesome screen, and I personally like HTC sense. But again, I was never really comfortable with the size.

I messed around with a friends nexus, and it seemed to be just as fast processor wise, and just felt right in the hand. I loved the display and was sold. I wouldn't turn back.

wow this is super good to know. I came from an Evo and nothing that came out recently ever tempted me to leave.. no not the 3D, and the photon is ugly to me.. but the Nexus S has been on my mind since the original launch on T-Mobile.

Evo 4G is a damn good phone but I'm glad a switch to the NS4G. To me its like the low down phone nobody knows about. I know the Prime wont be that way but I wish it was. This phone is teh SHIZZNIT!

Had my Nexus S for three days now and love it. Too many things to list that I like about it. However, I have some things I find annoying and maybe you can help.

Sound notifications for email and text messages seem to be the same setting. I want to hear a sound for text messages, but turn off sound for email.

I keep getting notifications there is an update for Google Shopper, but when I accept it, it stays on the "Loading" screen with the rotating arrow. It never finishes, even after I power cycle.

I am a former Blackberry user and am spoiled on the blinking led when I have a new message. The only way to tell I have a new message with the Nexus S is to press the unlock button. Is there an app that will start up a simple screen saver when a message comes in?

Sound: You can set the notification sound for email and text in the settings in each app

Shopper: mine updates fine not that I ever use it.

Led: I've been using Vibration Notifier

Google mail app doesn't have it's own sound setting, but I found Messages does, so I set it from using the system default and turned down the system default. Now all I hear is incoming SMS.

Shopper was showing 0 kb in size, so I ran it once, then it showed a file size, then was able to update.

Intriguing app there. I was able to find an app called NoLED and it shows a black screensaver with floating icons of the incoming messages such as SMS, email, etc.

O Yes it does it's just hard to find....
GMail > Menu > More > Settings > click on your gmail account > Labels to notify

I have never tried it but I hear it's a battery hog. if you do please let me know
