Is there a comprehensive list of news sources about the Oxygen OS and if so ,Is there any device comparisons to the Android or Windows OS if any?

Okay my next question is will that Oxygen ROM migrate to any other Android devices in the near future?

OnePlus seem to be paying for most of the development.. So unless someone decides to do some sort of deal it seems unlikely.... As there doesn't seem to be a huge advantage in this over aosp or cyanogen (cyanogen mod, not cyanogen OS)

Thank you, Is there any information on what made this Oxygen ROM so special to the OnePlus manufacturers to use in their flagship devices?

It used to be the paranoid Android team that produced it... Oneplus had a deal with cyanogen to produce and support roms for their devices (cyanogen OS) this all went sour and oneplus were faced with the prospect of no roms on their devices... And rather than going for a vanilla Android, they 'bought' the paranoid Android team. They then released a bespoke oneplus rom for China (hydrogenOS) and the rest of the word (oxygen OS)

In realty it really isn't that different from ordinary Android... It's just the whistles and bells are a bit different.... But you'd find a similar difference in swapping between Samsung and LG for example.

It's not like amazon where they've really forked the os

There's also a domestic version for China called Hydrogen OS, based on Android.

@mikedt I've read a great deal of your post and from my intuition and analogy, you seem to have a remarkable availability on gathering important information about any Android technical subjects that's placed before you. Is there a possibility if you hadn't already done it? Open an account at OnePlus community and find out some pacific's on their Android device modifications development and share your findings with Android Forums,? I myself has opened an account with OnePlus community to see what I can gather about Oxygen ROM because there is no written information on what that ROM actually does and the Improvement s on which it contains.

You mean "All Seeing Eye Of Mordor!" China Android version :D

If it applies to that pacific ROM well
yes, If I receive what I'm looking for I'll feel you in later on why the urgency about getting all the information I can about that particular ROM.

I do spend quite a bit of time here on AF, and do read quite a few other forums and tech blogs as well, and I'm in China as well, which means I can go out and actually play with these things, that probably helps the most I think. :thumbsupdroid: ...also I do know some friends who are actually involved in the industry in Shenzhen. Want a cheap DLP projector or dentist drill?

I've known about and followed OnePlus right from the start. :) Frankly there's nothing special or magical about their Oxygen OS or Hydrogen OS, it's just another version of Android from China. Many Chinese manufacturers do it, have their own branding and ideas about how Android should be. Like Oppo with Color OS, Vivo with Funtouch OS, and apparently OnePlus phones are made in Oppo's factory. And OnePlus was founded by ex-Oppo people. There's even been evidence and much debate if OnePlus is really just a subsidiary of Oppo. Both Oppo and Vivo are actually the same company, BBK Electronics of Guangzhou. The OnePlus One was basically an Oppo Find 7a, minus some features, like rapid charging and NFC.

OnePlus have never released their Oxygen OS for anything but their own devices, and have no intentions to AFAICT. However Oppo releases their Color OS for other phones, like certain Samsungs, HTCs, and Xiaomis. Xiaomi has a version of Android called MIUI, and they've made that available for many devices, and in fact they even had MIUI on Samsungs and things before they even started making phones themselves. :D

Some others are Huawei with EMUI or Emotion OS, Meizu with Flyme OS. Alibaba has their Aliyun OS on quite a few phones, including Philips. They're all "based on Android", which is what they state.

Isn't this just a name for their customization of Android that they're running?

OnePlus = Oxygen/Hydrogen
Samsung = TouchWiz
HTC = Sense
LG = Motion
ASUS = Zen
Xiaomi = MIUI

Etc.

Yup. Thats it.. although they did make a great deal of song and dance about it.

The thing about oneplus... is when they launched, they had partnered with cyanogenmod... and a lot of the reason why people bought the first devices was that it shipped with a version of cyanogenmod that was optomised for their phone... which is a really nice idea.. Unfortunately when they had a falling out they had to do something... and so they bought the paranoidandroid team, and really branded their 'customisation' hard as OxygenOS... making it very clear (to the lawyers from cyananogen) that it wasn't based on the cyananogen codebase at all... but they've gone back and built up their customization from scratch.

In practice its a pretty bare boned android implementation... and certainly feels a lot more nexus like than the CM roms that are available for their device (which are still available, but that they aren't allowed to ship their new devices with)
