New OTA Update Available from VZW Now

This could be fun...

No, its not fun, I just did the update and now my phone is locked in a reboot mode. It just keeps re starting, I never even get to a home screen.

THIS SUCKS

Time to call Verizon.

Called VZ, had to do a reset, lost all my apps.

not fun!

That seemed like it was happening to me, I rebooted the phone & it was all good. Hopefully that works for you too.

Meh. It's loading and running. I had to reload my flux live wallpaper after all of that, but that's it. No surprises or ugly moments.

I lost my HTC Battery widget and had to uninstall it and reinstall it to get it to show back up in the widgets list. Other than that, no drama or changes noticed.

So I did not notice any immediate changes after this update, but it seems like my device is using a lot less battery at work (where I have no bars and 1x). I keep the data turned off at work to minimize drain, but with the screen off I am only losing a percent an hour or so, compared to before the update when I would lose substantially more.

I know that is entirely anecdotal. I will now try to do a slightly more scientific test:

Highly Scientific* Test

I just let my phone sit for an hour with the countdown clock running twice, once with 3g and once without. I had zero bars the whole time, I have virtually no service at work.

With the 3g on, I lost 7% of my charge going from 87% to 80%. That is not terrible, given that I have 0 bars.

With the 3g off, I lost 1% of my charge going from 80% to 79%. That is superior, given no bars.

Note, my signal at work is around -100 dBm

Conclusions:

:D Turning off 3g saves hecka battery. [Thanks to capt. obvious for that.]

 It seems better than before, where I would have the phone turned off during the day, and 3g off, yet would lose 20-30% of the battery over five hous. When I leave the 3g on during the day, I could crush my entire battery without turning the screen on.

 My service blows at work. I work in a government building in downtown dc on the 9th floor. If big red can't get it together here...

 I think that this means the update did something (not just GB, but the 2nd one) to boost the connectivity. Despite showing zero bars, the phone seems to be able to just sit there and not lose huge amounts of juice, it used to do so with froyo, and with GB before the 2nd update.

*this test was in no way scientific, just one person with one reasonable example.

So does anyone know what this update changed? I looked around but can't seem to find info on it..

Thanks

EDIT: one thing I noticed is now I have the auto sync icon in the notification bar (top) .. it never goes away.. I don't recall that being there before the udpate..
