Help 'new pc studio' cd useless? no synchronising?

Just found a way to transfer files using PC Studio or Windows directly.

1. Install New PC Studio or just USB drivers.
2. By default the phone is set to "Mass storage only". If yours isn't set to this, change in Settings > About phone > Additional Settings > Mass storage only.
3. Connect phone via USB and USB notification is shown in Notification bar.
4. Drag down notification bar and click usb notification to allow file transfer.
5. You get the option to mount the internal SD card, click Mount.

Now you can transfer files to/from the internal SD card.

Note: You will see 2 drives (J and K), but only the K: drive will work and this is the internal SD storage.

When you done, you should drag down the notification bar again and click the notification to turn off usb storage.

akanbi, i think what you're describing works on the external sd as well.

kam187, i can't point to c:\program files\Samsung\New PC Studio\USB Drivers, only to its' sub-directories - USB Drivers\1, USB Drivers\2 etc...
tried each of them - windows couldn't find the drivers.
perhaps i need to add it to the environment PATH?
or perhaps someone can make a .zip with all the necessary drivers? that would make my life a lot easier :)

If you've installed the driver already then as you plug in the cable, windows should pop up a "found new hardware wizard";

  1. choose "no" to not connect to windows update;
  2. choose "install from a list or specific location";
  3. next choose "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install";
  4. choose "Universal serial bus controllers".
  5. It should then let you choose a samsung driver and that should be you sorted. :)
Hope this helps

Tim

Looks like i linked you version 1.1.0 by mistake! Unplug your phone, then go to 'update' in the PC studio and it should update you to 1.2.0 1F2

I've just found NPS 1.2.1.. i'll report back if it works.

How did it go?

I managed to search and find the app, but it failed to downoad for me (only managed to download about 28MB), so I'm stuck with NPS saying it doesn't recognise the device. :(

I'll give it another try from home tonight. :rolleyes:

Just forget about the New PC Studio it's useless anyway. Update phone with MultiOdin and you can sync everything through wireless or 3g. Transfer data with USB.

The problem that I have is that I am trying to transfer my calendar from my old nokia 6300 via Outlook 2000 on my wife's laptop (I run Linux on my machines).

Google calendar sync only works with Outlook 2003+ and GooSync - Google Synchronization failed to upload my calendar from my Nokia, saying that it couldn't open a data connection.

NPS imports the calendar fine from outlook, but then won't connect to my Galaxy.

I need to get this data transfered somehow, or I'll start missing appointments, birthdays, etc. :(

Any ideas of another way to transfer this will be gratefully accepted (ideally free - don't fancy paying for a outlook -> google synchroniser, since I don't use Outlook at home)?

Thanks,

Tim

i exported my contacts from outlook in csv dos format and imported into gmail contacts, job done then once i synced my phone i dont like using that pc studio its naff compared to nokias pc suite anyway.

Hi all, don't know whether this is of any use but i spoke to Samsung at the weekend as my phone wouldn't connect to the New PC studio either. I was told that this phone isn't compatible with this software and a new version is currently in testing. No expected release date as of yet.

I can access the 7gb internal SD card partition just by mounting the sd card upon connection to my laptop but not the smaller 1gb partition.

Im in the uk btw.

jwk: thanks for some official info, finally! :) however I don't care much for the PC Studio since it's useless to me - do you know when they will fix the random shutting down of the phone problem? that is really a killer, if they don't fix it soon i might have to turn this phone back in. also, any idea when a new firmware is coming?
thanks!

I don't know anything for sure but reading between the lines i would guess (in the UK at least) there will be no firmware update until the NPS works with this phone. Im assuming this from a support point of view ..supporting non techy users that is.

I would suggest that anyone and everyone ring samsung themselves as often as possible with a mind to getting these issues resolved. They can be contacted (from within the uk) on 08456726786 or 0845726864 From 9 till 6 Monday to Saturday.

Good idea! The simple ones are often the best and the whole thing was very easy, once I'd found disk 1 to install the import/export tool. :D

Agreed. It seems to be lots of animation and noises and not a lot of functionallity. :mad:

This is ridiculous. Judging by your conversation with Samsung it appears they release a brand new phone, bundle it with a CD containing software which is incompatible with it, and then happen to 'forget to release' drivers the phone requires.

I love the phone but these blunders seem way too much...

Yep, thats about it. Ring them yourself. I would hope a large amount of queries on this issue would prompt some kind of action from them..
