Root New Root Guide

I have a Samsung Galaxy S i500 that I just bought. I've been told it's basically a Samsung Fascinate. My carrier (Alltel) is way behind in smartphones, but they're the only carrier to get a signal at my house. They tend to lag pretty far behind as far as the newest phones. This is the coolest phone they've got out right now, but everybody else probably had it a year ago. It's running 2.3.5 software with all the stock apps. I just unwrapped it last night. I've been looking for a step-by-step guide to rooting it, but the only one I found says at the top of the forum it's closed due to being out-dated and no longer works. Is this true? If so, can somebody provide a simple process to root? I'm not a very advanced user, so the simpler the better.

This thread is racking up views but no comments. Figures. I'm the only idiot with this problem. LOL Can anybody tell me if they've recently used the rooting process described first in this forum? It says it's no longer relevant. I'd love for somebody to tell me they used it 3 weeks ago and it works just great.

The rooting method I was talking about is the very first thread in the "Fascinate-all things root" forum. It says "Sticky" in red bold letters. I looked at the process you posted a link to, and if I need to go this route I will, but I ain't even close to understanding half of those steps. I'm not trying to be difficult, I know beggers can't be choosy. I really appreciate the feedback, but I'd still like to find a method that's a little simpler so my small, slow thinking brain can process it. I promise I'm not lazy and just trying to get somebody to do all the legwork, I'm just that simple-minded

How to flash ICS on the Samsung Fascinate!

I would recommend flashing ICS to get the most out of your phone. That's a guide I made for reference for myself and for anyone else wanting to flash the most stable build of ICS yet. If you have any questions just ask. I doubt samsung will ever even release an ICS OTA update.
Most ROMS these days do the rooting for you... so you don't even need to do a separate process. If you only want to root your phone though it takes a matter of seconds. There's some one-click root method I believe.

You said if I only want root there's a process that only takes seconds. Do you know how to do this? Root access is all I want. I don't know what ROM, ICS, OTA, or flash/flashing means. Not trying to be sarcastic, just would like as simple a procedure as I can get. I've tried holding down the volume button and yelling "ROOT" as loud as I can and that hasn't worked. That's about the extent of steps I should take unsupervised.

Would you mind letting me know how it goes? I'm sorry it took me so long to respond, my sister borrowed my computer for "a day or two tops"

It actually went very smooth. I only rooted using the steps in section 6, just follow the instructions exactly. The OP of that thread keeps it updated and sometimes 'fine tunes' the instructions.

I just rooted my Fascinate using the link provided also. It went very smooth, like Stingray11 said, and I was surprised by how quickly it went. I was expecting a lengthier process for some reason.

Just follow the directions and it'll be rooted before you know it.

best part is its damn near impossible to screw up this phone... ive flashed bad roms... messed up system files... done anything you could possibly do wrong and no matter what if you have odin and a file for it.. your in the clear....

i would suggest going over to xda and checking out geewiz if youd like to stay with touchwiz(for some reason) but its 100x better and smoother than stock..
otherwise for ics... currently im running teamhacksungs cm9 build10 and icy glitch v14b6 kernel... and it runs just as smooth as my lg spectrum
