New Samsung commercial makes fun of hipster iPhone fanbois

Yowch. This new commercial for the Samsung GS3 takes direct aim at the iPhone 5 and the people lining up to buy it.

Check it out.

What do you think - low blow, or well-deserved burn?

I saw the commercial last night and I loved it.

I can't stand Apple and all of the sheep that line up and buy their garbage.

Kind of odd to use the phones popularity to advertise your phone.

Look, our phone isn't popular enough for people to line up for.

Seems silly.

You miss the whole point tho... It's that people line up for it that's silly, and what makes it funny. It's one thing to line up for food/water during a catastrophe; quite another to do it for a tech gadget. I mean.. I wouldn't stand in line for any phone, regardless of how good it is. Not like you can't get it a few weeks later... or that your life will be any less fulfilling if you have to wait a bit. I mean.. what the iPhone 4/4S is so unusable or "unhip" it needs to be replaced at the first opportunity? Or that maybe you'll be one of the first 10 million people to get one - that would make you feel special somehow. Yea, I would camp around that block for a chance at that! Talk about a big LOL.

That Apple can create that anticipation to have people line up around the block for something that's not even close to a necessity shows you how incredible their marketing really is... or how susceptible, vain, and weak minded (or all 3 or some combination thereof) some people can be, depending on your point of view :)

I thought the messages were funny, but the overall commercial was goofy... hipsters with coffee never smiling, cliched black rimmed glasses, beards on the guys, beanies, everyone talking about their phone's features, actually USING S-beam (who actually uses this in real life, cmon...), parents coming over to step back inline.

Overall it was funny, and I got the messages... it's just so phone/tech-centric that it seems a little dorky. (I realize thats the point, it's just not very believable)

I dunno, it may be a cliche but I think Apple has nobody to blame for it but themselves. We're talking about a company run for years by a guy who wore a black turtleneck and bluejeans.

Features like the Sbeam would be great and really take off if more people had the GS3. Apple sheeple only have the one phone to choose from and works out to be advantageous for them. If the iphone had a feature like Sbeam it would get used way more often.
The thing that I took away from the commercial was that the people didn't even know what they were standing in line for, and excited for "new" features that we've enjoyed for years.

Well there were lines for the GS3 in some countries too- it's not like the GS3 has no demand. I just don't think it's wise to rip on the iPhone users- you want to welcome them into Android, not mock them. Basically this ad is a feel good ad for the fanboys but does nothing really to promote the phone.

Imagine if Apple started ripping on Android users in their ads. I doubt that will win over many converts here.

Imagine if one Android phone a year were released, instead of three a month.

Lines would happen. ;)

That would probably be the best thing to happen to Android instead of 100 makes and models of phones 90 of which are crappy. Have 1 top of the line Samsung, 1 top line Google, etc....

So all the available Android phones are close to the iPhone and can compete not like it is now with all the lower crappy models.

But it's so easy to mock them :). I went on a weekend trip with an iPhone fanboy. We had conversations that pretty much mimicked what was said in the commercial. I wonder what he thought when he saw the commercial, lol.

That was part of the point of the commercial, though. No one was lining up for the SGS3 because it's already out and has been for awhile and has the same features and more that the iPhans are lining up for. Plus they weren't really lining up because the phone was popular, per se, rather it was a hive mind mentality, making excuses for things it didn't have or changed, etc.

I disagree. Some people can only afford a lower end phone. There would be fewer people using Android if all the models were really expensive. Less users and less apps, and less market share for Android phone manufacturers. Samsung outsells Apple because of the variety of their products.

It's better to have more people using Android.

I think that's a great commercial actually......basically says what is true! LTE? Yeah, we've had that. Big screen? Ours is bigger. I love the parents thing...that's classic.
