I have just replaced the screen on my wildfire s a3333 and it doesn't seem to work i.e. I cant get the HTC screen up or swipe the screen to get into the phone

Sounds like something isn't connected properly - if it doesn't recognise swipes that suggests that the digitiser isn't working, for example.
