New SIM -> Things stopped working

Hi, I hope someone can help....

My son's first 'phone - A Samsung Europa - originally we had on the 3 network (on PAYG), but due to no signal at home, we got him a new SIM for T-Mobile (PAYG). That's when it started to go wrong....

His applications have now dissapeared (no Facebook app for example). There's no link to Google Play, and when we select "Samsung Apps" it just responds "No updates".

After a bit of reading I was going to try a factory reset (not certain how though), but wanted to back the phone up first: so I installed Kies. Unforturnately there's no backup option  being displayed in Kies? Have read the help and backup is just not listed anywhere?

Any help greatly appreciated (my son is desperate to get apps working on his phone). You'd make him very happy (and me also, so I don't have to hear about it again :D)!

Please accept my appologies if I've posted this in the wrong place (I'm new here!).

Thanks!

This may be a silly question but is the phone unlocked or did you get it unlocked in order to use a different sim in it? Second thing were you sent or have you asked for proper internet/ sms /mms settings from t mobile? If not maybe try these before factory reset which would wipe all your data.

Thanks!
Yes we did get the phone unlocked. Not certain about the internet settings though? He uses SMS all the time. Will try calling them tonight.

That may be the problem. Each network has different settings. When you ask they will send a message to the phone, either text or push message. Open it and follow the install instructions, you will probably need to reboot the phone after installing. Hope that works for you.

Just spoken to Orange (my mistake, not T-mobile): they think the problem was caused when the 'phone was unlocked.

If I do a factory reset will that relock the phone please?

Hey WinchestStoke :)

How did you get it unlocked? I am not 100%, but I don't think that a factory reset will relock the phone.

You may get the best answer from other users of the Europa, as they may have had/heard of similar issues :)

Here is a link to the Galaxy Europa sub-forum :D

It may have been unofficial, but it shouldn't matter! :)

As I said, your best bet would be to check with other users in that sub-forum.

Let me know how you get on :D
