New Sony Experia Arc user such a newbie

HI, I am just charging up battery. hear battery life is poor? told to charge 8 hours so 100% done ? I have never used any unit android or other before and freaked out. With Rogers on 500 data pack and only have 15 days or 30 minutes talk time to test. Suggestions? what is a tag?
