Help new stylo acting up (mpcs variant)

In my defense i just moved and let go of my old desktop fossil circa 2006/2007 lol.

Really i dont see the need in a laptop or desktop for majority of my uses theres an android equivalent so i get by with a phone and tablet only.

And thanks ill check the link!!

I love android but it will never take the place of real computing.

Im slightly stuck. All my options seem to require me to use a pc .

Im currently am without a pc and home internet for a whole month...so im going to have to d/l big files on public WiFi smh.

I mean im willing to drive to the gas station to use the internet if need be im just asking which method do you suggest given my limited resources ?

Well reflashing anything you can should help, giving those pre-rooted stock roms a try is the best you can try without a pc for that long, I would definitely recommend doing that.

But flash them how when i dont have proper root? Thats the issue. King root or something like that sorta worked but later i read it was for 5.0.2 only and i have 5.1.1

It sorta worked but i never could get an su app from the app store to install properly because it always failed when i tried to "update the su binary"

Another su app showed everything was ok except my permissions in the system partition.

Still it took twrp . i never tried to flash anything. Instead decided to unroot and factory reset. So i may or maynot have twrp still. Flashify shows it blank when it gives the option to backup the current recovry and idk what the boot up button combo is to enter recovery. Anyone know?

No kingroot works on 5.1.1 now as well, what exactly did you do to unroot? Because unless you overwrote twrp with something it should still be there. To go to recovery mode using hardware keys do this(skip to the bottom where it says how to do it with hardware buttons, everything before that is irrelevant): http://www.android.gs/enter-recovery-mode-lg-g4/

If you're not sure you have twrp you should consider backing up anything important to your sd card because the prompt is going to say that you're consenting to a factory reset, if you have twrp it will boot into twrp, if not and you indeed have the stock recovery it WILL do a factory reset.

what Blu8 said. make sure to back up.

you can root with trwp if its installed. to get into recovery, you power off the phone.
  1. Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons on the back of the device.
  2. When the LG logo appears, quickly release and then re-hold the Power button while continuing to hold the Volume down button.

I did still have twrp. I used gametheory's 10j firmware that comes pre rooted with twrp.

Obviously its too early to tell if it worked or not. If not then custom rom here i come. Fingers crossed.

Oops phone froze up writing that msg.

Anyways if i go into about phone in the settings menu and casually scroll up And down it throws me out of the about phone menu and back into the main settings menu.

Ive noticed it does it with the developer options menu too.

I kept going back in those menus and eventually instead of kicking me back out to the main settings menu it restarted my device.

Ok. Unless anyone has a solution i think i need a way to go back to stock so i can force metro to honor their warranty . my defect could be physical if it happened even after inatalling someone elses copy of the firmware.

Im assuming going into settings and selecting "full unroot" or whatever is suffice to get rid of root in super su app but i need to return my recovery to stoc

Basically how can i be sure that I'm stock enough that ill bypass metro's watchful eye as im sure they'll check to make sure my system wasn't modified.

Btw like to return to stock without a factory reset if possible because the problem doesn't happen right after a factory reset. Its seems to happen 1 to 2 days later instead

the only way your going to get back to stock recovery is by using flashify or installing the stock firmware.

Great. Hopefully metro will accept My warranty claim once i show them My evidence.

Soon as i get to a WiFi connection ill upload the video here So others can see if its similar to a problem theyre having

If you ever have a problem with a device that was literally just unboxed, always do a factory reset. My lg Leon was suffering from phantom touchs before I reset.

On another note, if you have a warranty they cannot deny you a replacement. If it is within the 7 day limit, they have to take it back if defective. If not, just let them know that it's within your right to take them to court over selling defective products. That usually gets them going.

No offense but I'm not an idiot. The factory reset was literally the first thing i tried After going through every crevice of the menu looking for possibly some setting/manufacturer shortcut/added feature that was causing this.

I went as far as rooting it installing twrp and flashing someone else's version of the stock rom assuming it must have been a software based issue like possibly when the os was installed on the phone In the factory but apparently my issue is the actual hardware im just not sure what it is.

If metro would have just taken it back easily then i would've just returned it without all the hassle.

I bought a Stylo from Metro back in late November from an authorized retailer. It has a faulty GPS which I only fully discovered last week.

The phone has a 12 month warranty. I went back to the same store, explained the situation and said I needed a replacement.

The store rep said a replacement would be $15 and would be mailed to the store for me to pickup, and in the meantime I keep using my current phone.

This was on a Sunday and the phone arrived the following Thursday. I am going to pick it up today and hopefully will have a working GPS.

My wifes phone has that problem. Everytime she turns on gps and attempts to use maps or waze etc it always says to go outside because its having trouble locating her location.

I got my replacement last week (finally) and did not have to pay anything (because i believe you only pay 15 if youve had it 2 to 12 months. Within the first month of purchase the warranty exchange is free.)

Mine is acting just fine. No more mysterious frequent reboots. No more phantom back button like behavior (where it takes me back a page or screen in a menu etc without me touching anything but behaving like i pressed the back button on the bottom left of the screen)

And i checked the gps before i left the store because i know thats a known issue with these lg g stylos

I got my replacement yesterday. GPS working well on it. I did not pay the $15 in the store. Maybe it will show up on my bill instead. Anyways I'm happy to have a fully working phone again and glad that it was a pretty painless process through Metro.

If You didn't have to pay upfront in the store i wouldn't worry . since metro is a prepaid service it wont be added to your bill say how it would with some other carriers that require a contract.
