New Terminator movie, and other warmed over stuff

A Top Gun sequel is in the works. I guess Tom Cruise can still pull that one off. Article also mentions a new Terminator movie, pitched as a sequel to the first two.
What do you reckon?
I'm not so sure about that. I mean Arnie is well past his sell by date, and I'm surprised Linda Hamilton has been tempted out of retirement for this one. Terminator franchise has got progressively worse, like the slaughter of Alien movies.
To me it's just another indication that Hollywood has run out of ideas. More warmed over movie franchises. Meh!
 
I am pretty sure that Arnold needs the money after his high profile and very expensive divorce. Look at all of the new movies Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis have been making in the last couple of years, I suppose for the same reason.

Add to that the fact that the first couple of Terminator movies made tons of money and you can expect sequels as long as the actors and actresses are still alive, perhaps even after that, until the movies are no longer highly profitable.
 
i'm actually curious on the new top gun movie more so then terminator. and to be honest....hollywood has always been about sequels, remakes, and even reboots as in kevin smiths jay and silent bob reboot

You're right, there have always been remakes (or 're-imaginings' lol!). Some of them work brilliantly, like John Carpenter's remake of 'The Thing'. But these days it seems to be the norm. And continuing franchises to death? A bit lazy IMO, especially when the quality declines. By all means continue the story, if there's a good story to be told.
I agree on the Top Gun movie, that could be one to watch, as Maverick has aged, and there's maybe a different story there.

That really depends on how good this is. The return of Linda Hamilton is interesting, but even the return of an iconic lead character and actor isn't enough if the script and the ideas aren't up to scratch (Alien Resurrection, I'm looking at you!).

But if even she can't save it maybe the studios will realise it's time to say hasta la vista, baby.

Oh goodness, Alien Resurrection. Enough said!
I had big hopes for Prometheus and Covenant, but even Mr Scott couldn't fulfil the promise.
Like you say, it's dependent on the quality of the script.

There's a lot of Chinese money in Hollywood nowadays, can't be making the party look bad. LOL. IIRC the remake of Red Dawn was supposed to be a Chinese invasion of the US, but China made them redo the whole thing to be a North Korean invasion.
 
I thought I read a one liner a couple of days ago that Arnie is not going to be in the Terminator remake after all. I did not read the article to get the actual details.
 
I just re-watched Alien: Covenant. It's actually not too bad a film, although could have been a lot better. I could handle more if Mr Scott gets funding to do it.
Here's an idea - let the fans write the next script. I'm sure we'd all come up with something interesting.

It really wasn't a bad movie. I enjoyed it. I like that it involved the storyline from Prometheus which I also liked.

On first viewing I thought it was dire, but that was due to my big disappointment about what I actually expected the movie to be like.

it was a gore fan pleaser that's for sure. More chest busting etc. Dramatic of course, but we've seen it before.
No, what I was hoping for, and what I thought was going to happen, was a focus on the 'Engineer' race, who created the ultimate weapon of mass destruction - the pathogen which causes such catastrophic mutation. At the end of Prometheus, when Shaw and David took off for the Engineers' homeworld, I thought the follow up movie would continue on that story. But unfortunately we saw very little of the Engineers, other than their final demise, in flashback.
I mean, why did they create the weapon? And at the start of Prometheus, we saw an Engineer ingest some of the substance, and that had completely the opposite effect, by seeding life on Earth. It was in fact a life giver. So there were presumably two types of the substance. Were there two factions/tribes of Engineers? I thought all this would be resolved by Covenant, but it didn't answer any questions.
So I think there's so much more to this story, and it doesn't have to be more of the same. I wonder if Ridley Scott wanted to tell that story, but was overruled by the studio? Who knows.

Dang, when you put it that way... You have now got me interested in seeing both movies again as my memories of them are very vague. But, from your description, it does sound like a missed opportunity for the studio.

edit:
Unless it's a highly anticipated sequel, I usually approach a movie with little expectations. It saves me from big disappointment.
