Help New to Android and not happy with it...

I've had several issues with this phone. I've already swapped it once and the same issues persist. The phone will randomly lock up to where I have to take the battery out to get it to work properly again. I am also having issues with the backspace key in landscape mode for texts. It will go into the "delete by selection" mode. This is my first experience with Android and honestly, I'm not impressed. Never had these kind of problems with my iPhone, but everyone raved about Android and how awesome they are and I don't see why with all the issues I'm having. Anyone know of any fixes for these problems that doesn't involve downloading apps?

I think i read some other people complain about the keyboard problem since the gingerbread update I don't have this problem cause i use SwiftKey so it has to be as glitch with the stock keyboard. Hopefully an update comes out to fix these bugs.

As for the locking up, again I have 3 inspires none of which do that. Does it happen when you are doing something specific or randomly whenever no matter what you are doing?

Every phone has its own set of issues. Your iphone maybe have been problem free to you but my husbands iphone needed to be reset once a week to work properly and was a huge PITA.

The locking up happens at random times. I've already swapped this phone out once and the replacement phone is doing the same things the first one did. I've tried 2 different keyboard apps and it still does the glitch. I don't recall that issue happening prior to an update coming through the second day I had the phone. I'm going to try a couple things and if that doesn't fix it, then it's going back tomorrow. I'd rather deal with my iPhone needing to be charged a couple times a day than a buggy phone.

I'm pretty sure the issue w/ the keyboard and the messaging app has more to do with the messaging app. When I first heard about it, I tested it with the three different keyboard apps that I had and was able to replicate it with each. So I assume it's just one of the many bugs in the messaging app that popped up with the GB update. The best suggestion to work around these bugs is to use a different messaging app. I've been using Handcent pretty much since I've had my phone and don't experience any of the issues others are reporting with the stock app.

As for the random lockups, is it possible that an app you've downloaded from the market is the cause? Even though you replaced the phone, your apps from the market will usually automatically restore. If there's a bad app, then it's a good chance it'll cause the same problem. You're not using any type of task killer app or anything like that are you?

Personally, I haven't come across any recurring issue that I haven't been able to resolve or work around. Most issues have been with the stock messaging app, and like I mentioned, by using Handcent I don't encounter those problems. If you don't want to use 3rd party apps then maybe going back to the iphone is the best option for you. If you're willing to do a bit of research and troubleshooting, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to find a solution to the issues you're encountering and get the phone working in a way you're happy with.

I did have Advanced Task Killer and Android Assistant on my phone. As did a few other people I knew and never had an issue with those apps or their phones. I am aware anything is possible when it comes to software and hardware conflicts and what works on one phone doesn't on another. The idea that malicious things can be posted on the market is kind of scary to me. Really makes me want to go back to my iPhone because Apple tests apps before they hit the App Store to ensure they're not malicious.

As for 3rd party apps, I don't think I should have to download a keyboard or messaging app to make my phone work the way it's supposed to out of the box. 3rd party apps should be considered an add on or enhancement, not a way to make something that should work right, work. I don't think it's much to ask to have a phone work properly out of the box.
