new to android: Screen lock settins?

I just got my new DROIDX recently and I have a couple of questions (I have been a windows mobile girl since the very first smartphone).

1. Is there a way to "wake up" the phone by tapping the screen instead of hitting the button on the top?
2. The "lock" seems to come on everytime the screen goes black. So every time I go to use my phone I have to slide that little unlock thing. Its quite annoying.
3. Is there a quick way to lock the screen? I want to be able to lock it easily when I go to put it in my bag or something......but if its just laying around the house I dont want it to lock automatically.

There's a lock screen bypass app... I don't use it, but I've seen it mentioned several times. Just search for it.

I just installed AutoLock and it seems to work ok. I added a widget to my homescreen so that it turns locking on or off instantly. works so far
