New to Android

Hi all, just popping in to say hello. I am a new convert to Android via Verizon from BB via AT&T. The transition is bumpy, but I am slowly gaining a working knowledge of my new Droid 4 (gotta have QWERTY buttons).

My most recent bump in the road is when I am dealing with anything that involves a list such as the dating website Plenty of fish or creating a playlist from the 15+ gigs of songs I uploaded to the SD card, the list always goes back to the first entry rather than taking me back to the point I left when selecting the entry. To better explain, let's say I am creating a music playlist, when scrolling through the alphabet of songs/albums/artists I select a song from Breaking Benjamin, after adding the song from the artist I am diverted back to the very beginning of the list rather than the point of the entry which in that case would be "B". Is there a way to change that or can I make that rule?

Also I am concerned with data usage of apps continuing to run when I am done with it. I'd like to have the OS treat most/all apps like my Windows OS on my laptop does, i.e. STOP. With Blackberry I was able to hit the BB key and scroll down to tabs and close a browser page or terminate an app with no fear that it will continue drinking it's merry little heart out feeds of data. The apps should be designed to only serve the user, not the supply of data to serve the app.

Any thoughts or directions will be most appreciated. TYIA

P.S. Rush Lindsay, I love your quote about respect and will be using that frequently in life.
