Sounds like some application is serving those ads, so it's really a matter of identifying which app.
The most annoying type of advert, IMO, is Push advertising. I don't know whether this is what you are seeing, but try installing an app called Addons Detector from the Play Store and scanning for apps using push notifications. If you find one, uninstalling it will remove the ads.
