As someone considering buying a nexus 7, did the 4.2.2 update fix the re-booting problem? How long will it be before a new purchase will come with 4.2.2 pre-loaded?
 
If 4.2.2 is not yet installed, it will eventually install automatically. And I never had a re-boot problem either.
 
There have been numerous posts on this forum and others about nexus 7 and 10 freezing and re-booting in the middle of an application.

Well yes, but people don't post to say "my N7 didn't freeze or reboot today". I can speak only for 2 N7s out of the millions that have been shipped, but for what it's worth neither of mine have frozen or rebooted.
 
The only rebooting issue I ever had was with HD Widgets on the lock screen. Once I uninstalled that app, the rebooting stopped.
 
None here either.

As was said, you really have to take what you read on forums with a grain of salt. If it is really a widespread problem, there will be a major amount of forum activity around it and discussions in the tech press as well. Otherwise, people come to forums to report problems, but whether they are truly problems with the device or that persons particular software or something else-- well, that's what we try to figure out when we help. But it is usually a few people out of thousands or millions sold and any device line can have lemons. That's what warranties are for. ;)

Haven't had any freezing or rebooting on my N7. Works great except I can't get it to tell me when I get an email

My N7 has not rebooted on it's own or crashed since I got it many months ago. I highly recommend this tablet for so many reasons which I will not bore you with. The 4.2.2 update has been smooth since I installed it and it's easy enough to install so I wouldn't worry about getting it out of the box. You will get the update Over The Air when you connect to wifi or 3G...
