Root New to anroid have root question.

Hey I am new to android and am wondering if I should root my Samsung Epic. What exactly are the benefits of rooting ? If I don't like it can I go back? Will I do any permanent damage by trying? Please be gentle my first time

Rooting is like gaining admin access to your phone. It technically voids your warranty as there is a lot that can be messed up by having root access.

Yes, you can return the phone to stock using Odin.

Personally, I will never buy another android phone without being able to root it, but I'm aware if the risks involved. Ultimately, I would recommend reading everything you can on rooting and going from there. Don't do it until YOU are ready.

A couple other reasons:

custom roms that allow you to theme your phone.
wifi tethering that allows you to do it for free.
at least in my experience, the roms usually have better working GPS.
allows you to create backups of your stuff.
