Help new to Galaxy Ace and need help please

capersHTC

Newbie
Hello,

I have just changed my phone to a Galaxy Ace and love it.

Couple of questions though if I can please?

1. On my HTC, when I composed a SMS I was able to add smillies to the message, these were selectable, via an icon on the keyboard. It this 'option' available for the Ace?

2. I keep getting a notification at the top of the screen stating that there are two important battery booster update available for my phone (which I suspect are spam), what do I have to do to prevent these notifications?

Thanks in advance,

For the first point, to add a smiley, depending on what keyboard you're using-

If you're using the 3x4 key one you need to select the '123' button, then '?#+' (which it changes into) and then smileys are on pages 5, 6 and 7, which you go through at the bottom left of the screen.

If you're using qwerty, then select the '?123' key, bottom left, and then press on the '1/3' key twice, which will give you all the smileys to choose from...

Not sure about the second point.

Apart from what @wearethestorm has mentioned (post #2)when you are in the compose window, tap the menu button (left of the center (Home) button). You will find an option ‘Insert Smileys’.
BTW I use the Samsung keyboard on ver 2.3.4

Just out of interest, are there any better SMS apps available that replace the stock item?
I installed Handcent (free app on Market), and it's excellent. In fact, I couldn't have kept the Ace if it wasn't for this app as the font of the stock messaging app was too small (long-sighted, me ).

Anyway, apart from the font it is totally customisable. Absolutely strides ahead of the stock app. Nearly 5 months on I am still finding new ways to customise that I hadn't noticed before.

I tries other similar apps - GoSMS etc. but Hancent won hands down.

Give it a try - you can always uninstall it if it's not what you want, but make sure you have a good play around with it first so you know exactly what it can do :).
