new to shift - question(s)

Hey everyone
first off, thanks to this site I was able to get a shift for $1 at Miami Int'l Mall as of exactly a wk ago. A HUGE upgrade from my faithful old palm CENTRO lol

anyway, I was wondering a few things:

1. how long should you expect the battery to last on average? awake time/uptime

2. best screen protector for the shift

3. best 16gb memory card

I've done a bit of research.. reading the batt life thread, looking up various products.. but I feel getting a direct answer from someone on this forum might clear the air for me

With moderate use, I usually get about 16 to 18 hrs out of a battery charge. I don't pay a lot of attention to awake time or uptime. As long as it lasts 12 hrs or more I know all is ok. I don't use a screen protector. I don't like the way all the ones I have tried make the screen feel all sticky to the touch. The screens on these phones are pretty rugged, anyway. I work in construction, and have never had a scratch (so far, fingers crossed x)) As lond as you get a name brand memory card, you will be fine ie, sandisk or similar. Also do you think its possible to damage the battery capacity/charging of the phone itself?
Around wednesday night I decided to charge the phone while on, then turn it off and charge it.. after that it seems my battery is a bit lower than usual. I have all the syncs turned off aside from weather & not many apps. I played about an hour of angry birds to test the battery.. I got about 8hrs up/11ish awake. I used to get 12hrs/26 awake with all syncs on! (then again i dont think i played an hr of angry birds either..) My Juice Defender app even said theres a decrease, from something like 1.32 to 1.10 currently.

I'm paranoid because its such a new phone, any time i see statistics like that i go OCD & I still have time to replace it if I damaged it internally.

what would you say moderate usage is?

Coincidental - that wouldn't damage anything.

I'd go with Sandisk, from Amazon.com. I had a 16 gb card from my last phone, so just cleaned it, and moved it over. Class 2 is fast enough.

IMHO the boxwave screen protector is well worth the investment. Not cheap, but great product. Its a hard plastic with sticky silicon on the back. It adheres to the screen without adhesive. Lifts off easily, and they say you can wash and re-apply, but I've never tried. I have the non-glare, but they do have it in crystal clear.

How long does the battery last? How long is a piece of string?? Signal strength has a lot to do with how the battery lasts, as does the amount of screen on time, etc.

I would say for me moderate usage is checking email once every hour or 2, 25 to 50 texts, surfing around on random web pages (maybe 30 min to an hour) a few phone calls, and some posts to a few different forums I frequent. I use google talk quite a bit to talk to a few friends often throughout the day also. Heavy use days include some youtube and maybe some music listening or streaming from pandora or a similar app. Everyone is different. I use my phone for entertainment and just keeping in touch more than any work related use.

turns out i was paranoid.. my phones been on for almost 2 days with light-moderate use i guess lol

as far as that screen protector, it looks really good! sounds a hell of a lot more durable than the thin plastic films they sell.. but how does it compare to the seidio/etc?


anyone got a durable case? or is the otterbox on everyones to buy list?
 
Otterbox FTMFW!!!! I have one pre-ordered from ohcases.com. It is cheaper than the Otterbox site....

yeah I'm holding out for the otterbox but I didnt purchase insurance on the phone (never broke a phone unless intentionally)... I guess I can wait a month or two more.. i guesss <_<

Yeah, I like 'em. :)

They look better, feel better and protect better than any other case I have found.

After I lost a phone and had to eat one at cost, the insurance seemed like, well, cheap insurance for me. ;) haha
