upgrade to Ics by going to system/about tablet/system firmware update click update and it will let you know if there is a update.

As Blaxican said updates are done through settings/about tablet. That is where you would see the builds for various things

Rooting is just giving you superuser access to system files if you want. Go to the XDA forums to learn more about it. The people over there can explain it better than I.
