Root New to Thunderbolt and confused with all the options :/

I recently came back to HTC (Thunderbolt this time) after being on a Motorola Driod X2 (yuck!) since April. This phone I had no problem rooting. But now, with the Thunderbolt, I'm confused with all the options. Also a burning question in my mind is does the HTC bootloader unlocker tool do anything for me?

My Android version is 2.3.4
Software number is 2.11.605.19 710RD

All I specifically want to accomplish is freezing a few default Verizon apps with Titanium Backup and use my wifi tethering application. No custom roms for me. Actually tethering is the reason I came back to HTC because the Droid X2 just didn't work well - often not at all, even - for tethering. And even so it was SLOW.

Thanks in advance for the help! Oh and I have both Windows and Mac computers, if that makes any difference.

Htcdev unlock is a viable option,if all you want to do is root and remove some bloat. It does, however, have limitations and is a PITA for Rom flashing.

Revolutionary has an s off hboot that allows full access to all partitions, and allows for easy Rom flashing. The current software does need to be temp rooted,as revolutionarys prior exploit was patched. There are directions to manually temp root, then run revolutionary. If your comfort level with the cmd window is low, look for trter's all in one thunderbolt tool a couple threads down, wich will automate the process for you. :)
