New to xperia play. Questions.

Hello there. I am new to this forum as well as the xperia play and smart phones in general. So I had a few questions.

First things first. My carrier is Verizon. I want to know what are the best ways to limit my data usage. I have my phone wi-fi enabled so that when I am at home or school it will use that instead of my data. I also downloaded the app 3G watchdog to monitor my data usage. That aside, I have a max of 2GB a month and that is what I am willing to pay for. I have heard of the app called "Advanced Task Killer," but have read that it can do more harm than good. Are there background tasks that use data that I can disable without harming the device? Also, whenever I exit and xperia game title, the little playstation controller icon that says the title is ongoing appears at the top of my screen and I cannot seem to find a way to close it aside from powering down my phone. Any help here?

Also, what are the best known ways to extend battery life? Even at a full charge this thing seems to drain power quite quickly. Any advice would be appreciated.

I was also disappointed to discover the phone has had little support since its release and cannot play PSX games without what seems to be called "rooting." Is this process difficult or potentially damaging to my phone? Thanks in advance to all those with wise advice.

Unfortunately I would not be a whole lot of help regarding Rooting your phone (but please be aware that it can void your warranty)

As far as data goes, your phone will use Wi-Fi in preference over the GPRS connection. I would not advise using a Task Killer, however you can just turn off GPRS when you do not wish to use it to be on the safe side:

main menu > settings > wireless & networks > mobile networks > untick Data Enabled

There is widget to toggle Data - i dont know the name cause I deleted it.
I can say that phone (itself) newer use more than >50mb/month <-- data on when phone on.

Dont use task killers it kills battery/ram. Better root phone and use Auto Memory Manager

U can flash cuatom kernel and than change voltages what give better battery life (my XPlay life is 3 days with a lot of usage and wifi/data always on)

U don need root to play PSX games on XPlay?

U dont lose nothing when u root ur phone. U will be able to delete all bloatware (sony/carrier apps). If u want to play other games than sony is selling look for "PSXperia" (its on xda maybe here too).

I'm too lazy to go find my old post.. but I've posted links to the DL for PSXperia and the xda forum with step by step directions for using it. I've been told the latest update from sony breaks it. I didn't update as I want to keep my root.
