New TV Box-Help!

So, I just got this new box to replace my Roku from eBay. By reading other posts here, I'm now afraid I've gotten ripped off. I watched several YouTube videos but they all go from unboxing the unit to browsing the interface. I need the part they skip...the CONNECTION.

The box reads: OTT TV Box Android tv box 4XCPU 4XGPU. It came with unit, remote, mini keyboard, power cord, HDMI cable & USB cable. Top of unit has "MXQ" on it.

I unplugged my Roku 2, plugged HDMI cable from Sylvania tv to unit, plugged power cord into unit & into power strip where Roku was just removed from. Blue power indicator light on unit is on...tv will NOT turn on! What am I missing on these initial steps?! I can't exactly follow the included instructions as I have a modem attached to a router attached to the tv and a dvd player. I assumed this box would simply interject where the Roku had been for the last 5 years...

Finally got the tv to turn on by unplugging the unit power supply. TV remote does nothing. Buttons on tv do nothing. Buttons on unit remote randomly turn both tv & unit on/off. At one point, I had both the tv & the unit on. TV screen was blue & showed the channel as HDMI3 (what it's always been set on for Roku). Nothing happened so I tried to change the channel. Channel Search popped up in a box on screen & the screen faded from blue to white to black. No buttons of any sort would work either on tv or unit remote. I finally unplugged tv & unit. WTH?!?!
