Root New update?

Yes, same here. The update fails to install, of course, and I have to wipe cache and davlik cache in recovery in order to use the phone again. There must be an easy way to get rid of the update attempts without unrooting and then re-rooting?

I just had to fix my ex-wifes phone for her yesterday. I put her on BrokenOut 1.1 a while back because she complained so much about the memory warnings (If I heard one more time about how I recommended a 'junk' phone for her and that she should have bought an iPhone, I was going to scream!)

She got an OTA this week, and she lost 4g data and the battery was being rapidly drained in about 15 minutes. I restored to an old backup, and took the update. If it was the update referenced in this post, it sure as heck didn't fix any memory issues. The phone choked when trying to get through updating all of her apps.

I put her on BrokenOut 2.0 after the update, and it seemed stable (what a great ROM to compensate for a poorly designed memory management). In any case, I know that other custom ROM's I've used on my old DroidX had always disabled OTA's because of the threat of breaking functionality.

I *really* don't want to deal with the ex again if this is yet another update! But if it is, it would be awesome if mtmichaelson's next release could consider looking into how difficult if would be to disable the OTA. Also, if Pantech/Verizon has actually improved memory management with this OTA, perhaps that would be a good core for a BrokenOut 2.1 or 3.0 release. Easy for me to say though! ;)

Just got prompted for an OTA update. I'm on Broken Out 2.0. Anyone else getting this?
I got the same notification this morning. I have rooted the phone using MTMichaelson's excellent method but have not yet had the courage to try his ROM so I opted for "Remind me later" and quickly used Link2SD to freeze the "Software Update" entry. This action also removed the "Software Update" entry from the phone's "Settings>About Phone>" sub-menu. I hope this will prevent Verizon from forcing the update on me sometime when the phone is on and unattended.
