New user - froyo 2.2?

Hey guys.

I'm a practically new user and I just bought myself the Samsung Galaxy S. I literally haven't had much time to work my way around the phone yet. I'm from the UK so it's the European version of the phone.

I was wondering whether the OFFICIAL release of Froyo 2.2 has come out for the Samsung Galaxy S because I had the update on my Desire and it worked fine with no problems. If it has, have you encountered any problems? I know I have to go through Kies to update, which is a completely new concept for me. Hahah, if you can help a silly new user, I'd be much obliged.

Yes the official release is out but not in the US, I think not anyway.

Reading other people's threads, majority of the phones are dying from a bad ROM from Canadian network Bell.
There seem to be problems with WEP WiFI but that's not a big issue as you shouldn't be using WEP security in this day and age anyway.

I've never used Kies but some people find it easy and some people have had trouble.

Going from a Desire to Galaxy S and not Desire HD was a really good move. Desire HD looks good but it's step backward in my opinion, no AMOLED screen, crap speaker and smaller battery.

Thanks. I actually have a phone locked to Orange though, not unlocked and I keep reading that it's not available for Orange users until Jan 2011? So is it better if I just wait?

Yeah I read about that. I'm in the UK though, so it's alright :)

I know, I really didn't want to risk going to another Desire. I love HTC, but I think the Desire really disappointed me with small flaws that just got more and more inconvenient. The Galaxy S is impressive, and has a much bigger memory. ;)
