Help New user, mail probs, losing will to live

Well, new user, only just got phone and losing the will to live, i have a ntlworld mail address and use Outlook express on my home pc, used to have a blackberry and mail was fine, updated to Desire and what a nightmare, after much messing and searching till my eyes bled i have got to the following point
1/ mails sent in outlook from pc are not going to phone
2/ mails sent from phone are going to outlook on pc and phone but they appear in conversations on phone and i get no notifications

Settings are as follows
pop server pop3.ntlworld.com
SSL security
Port 995

Outgoing server settings
logon required unchecked
SMTP server smtp.O2.co.uk
Security none
Port 25

These are the only settings i could get it to work on, what the hell have i done wrong, blackberry is looking like a good option at the moment but i really like desire, please help

All sorted, used the (recent: )fix and that sorted it
Bit of a joke tho, buy a supposed top of the range phone and then spend a full day trying to get the thing to work correctly, would be nice if Virgin or HTC came up with some proper support
