New Widget(?) showed up

Screenshot attached. What is it, what does it do and how can I get rid of it if I don't need it.

It is on the desktop all of the time. No matter what is running it remains on top. I have tried all of the buttons. When a button is selected it becomes highlighted until another button is selected. The only button that produces any result is the rightmost button, which moves the box to a different corner of the desktop each time it's pushed.

wow that sucks......sounds like something was installed while you downloaded an app. you might want to try and uninstall anything recent.
 
weird chromebooks do not normally have widgets....unless you have taskbar installed. sorry i don't know what that is. i have a pixelbook and do not have it. i wonder if it is from your browser? maybe clear cache from there?
