Root Newb - Download issues after root...?

Hey alls... I recently rooted my exhibit ii to get rid of the bloatware and tether control apps... Everything went fine using the zerg rush method... However Ive since ran into an issue...

When I try to download an app from the Market... it force closes... and 99% of regular web based downloads end with a "download unsuccessful"

Ive tried everything from clearing the cache and data for the market app to a full wipe and nothing... And yes Ive had both a good data signal and a stong wifi signal... so thats not an issue.

I had backed everything up using Titanium however when I went back to restore the apps I had removed thinking they where just bloatware, it would pop up that it was recovering and just stay there and not do anything... Oddly enough the only things I removed where on a "safe delete" list...

Anyways... what could I have altered/removed that would keep me from being able to download anything? Right now I'm stuck downloading apps to my laptop and transfering them over manually which blows....

Thanks for any help.

Hi Chris,

I can't help you with the Market problem, other than to say you might have accidentally froze/uninstalled something important.

I did have that the hanging problem with Titanium backup though. It worked fine for awhile then started hanging whenever I tried to freeze/unfreeze something. The solution for me was to go into Preferences and set "App processing mode" to "AUTO, Indirect (If you have problems)".

I'll check into that....

I found that I did delete something important... downloadprovider.apk

I have it backed up in titanium but it wont let me restore it so far... So I copied the backup file to my laptop and got the .apk file out of the backup... put the .apk file in the phone's download directory and tried to install it manually but it wont let me do that either...

Suggestions??

I think your best shot is to try to get titanium backup working (maybe check their FAQ ?)

On the dirty side (which I do not recommend !):

Not sure it will help but settings>unknown sources may allow to install non market apps. I would be worried it will not be installed in /system/app but in /data/app. However, if you long click on an app in titanium backup list, it can be changed as a system app.

It may be possible to just copy the .apk to /system/app but I'm not sure what's the effect.

I can give that a shot...

Ive got titanium pro... changed the app processing mode.... no change.

Odd issue is that it will restore some things... just not the one thing that I need to restore...

I'll see if I can do it manually... cant really hurt at this point.

Next newb question would be... how can I get access to the system files on the phone?

Ive been through every folder and cant find anything that even contains .apk files

Thanks guys

Well... I transfered the .apk file to the system/app and still nothing... when I try to install it via Andoid Commander, it fails..

I also noticed that I'm missing the downloadprovider.odex file as well...

Still at a loss... Is there anyway to do a full factory restore of all the apps/data as if I just took it out of the box?

Alright guys... so from what I'm seeing... I need to know if someone can send me a copy of two files from a working phone...

File names are...

Downloadproviders.apk
Downloadproviders.odex

Both files will be located in the system/app folder

Apparently the .odex file wasnt backed up and figured it would be best to just go on and get both from a working phone...

My e-mail is AcIdBuRn02ZTS@yahoo.com if someone is willing to help me out.

Thanks!!
