Android Enthusiast
so i am new to android a bit, coming from winmo

is there a way like on winmo to stop running apps to preserve battery life? like turning off data after browsing the web?

also what are some tips for using this phone, like maintaining battery life etc...

I use Advanced Taskiller to kill process I don't want running anymore I also found this great app called Quick Settings which unhides some of the Menus that Sammy Hid or abbreviated. I contacted the creator of Quick Settings and he's supposed to make it even more customizable!!

so do i just search for that app in the market?

Yup exactly I remember seeing it on top free android apps(or was is it paid?) list on the official android website if go to android market. The icon was a blue and yellow battery

the three best are,

Advance task killer (a green android)
Taskiller (a red android)
Astro File (samsung gave us a file manager so this is just duplicating some stuff)

cool cause i just downloaded the advance rask killer, it works good, but some apps reopen on its own, wtf, myfaves was listed on the list. -_-

its one of the wonderful quirks of the behold2. random things show up in task killer.

wait you will see telenav pop up and others you didnt even know you had on the phone.

because of this i think task killer is my most used app on my phone. i have task killer OCD

I have Advanced Task Killer too and I've gotten the feeling that it may not be that those apps are really running, though some might be if they grab data in the background. Since Android is linux based and is known to grab as much memory as it can for caching purposes, I think Android is simply loading up programs data in the background so that these apps load much faster then from a cold start. I make this guess since I can look into the battery usage with Spare Parts and I dont see that many programs as listed by task killer using the cpu.

Yeah, I will say however that if you use a Home Alternative Program (i.e. Open Home, aHome, Panda Home, etc.) you will see my faves (for those that don't have it) in your programs list, but you can't use it.

So does the argument about whether or not task killers are needed to improve battery life on Android phones extend to all Android phones?

I'm really annoyed that I can't delete some of the apps this shipped with. Like, why am I being forced to keep around a demo of Diner Dash?

lol yeah, as long as i can have good battery life without not knowing what is draining the battery i am ok
