Newbe question

I am new to the Android phones, just upgraded to a Samsung GalaxyS on Verizon. I am having trouble getting any apps to upload. Seems I always get a message saying "Google Talk authentication failed". When I click on that I get :Google Talk failed to login. If this is a Goodle App account, confirm that Chat service is enabled for this account." I have no idea what any of that means.

I do not use gmail but our local provider and my emails seem to be coming through fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes, you need a gmail account to use Google Talk. If you haven't setup a Google account on your phone, you won't be able to use many of Google's services.

Alright, just found a solution. I have a tablet and signed up for google talk on my primary computer, changed back to googlemail and even did a factory reset on my device (worked for 10 minutes for 1 app download).
So, make sure you have a google talk account on your primary pc or laptop. The key for me?...... I have to be logged-on on my laptop or other pc for the app store to work on my tablet. A bit of a pain, but it works!
