Newbe - root?

Hi! I need help! Just picked up the Galaxy Prevail this week & need to root to have my own hotspot for my laptop. I have no idea what I am doing. I think I did everything right, but kms runs thru & reboots, says I should have root but everything above it says failed etc. ran root check & says no root. HELP! Please hold my hand & walk me thru this! Thanks, Christina
