Howdy, folks. Hope someone can help me migrate from Windows Mobile.
I use my phone primarily for business and personal needs (I'm not a gamer or texter to speak of) and got rather used to a cooked ROM on my HD2, such as having information on my main 'today' screen like upcoming calendar events and tasks, missed calls, and so on. However, I'm noticing that Android works differently with applications and some things are confusing me. Maybe y'all can get me pointed in the right direction on these general questions and needs.
1) How do we turn off the damned unlocker screen? I'm tired of having to swipe every time I turn the phone on.
2) Is there an Android equivalent of the WM "Today" screen? I want to see my stuff at a glance instead of going to the calendar.
3) Where did my running program(s) go? Isn't there some sort of task switcher that I can get to without having to go back to my home screen, tap on the applications button and start the application again?
4) While I'm on the subject of running apps, is there any sort of utility that will enable me to go back to the previous screen, or jump to home via an icon at the top of the screen or a gesture? I don't want to have to constantly hit the hard buttons, it's just not intuitive.
5) Isn't there an easier way to find applications than looking for them via the handset? I'd like to find a website that will show me not only how many stars an application has but how many reviews it has. Experience tells me that in most cases, an application with four stars and five thousand reviews will be better than an application with five stars and four reviews. The marketplace is just too cluttered with noise for my likes.
6) Can someone recommend an 'install to sd card' application to preserve the precious internal memory on Euro model HD2's?
7) Does the Android OS have a 'registry' like Windows Mobile where I ought to be concerned about how many applications I experiment with and what they might leave behind? And, on that subject, if I flash a new ROM on my machine, what happens to the applications that I bought via the Marketplace? Is there a way for me to back the 'packages' up?
8) This one is a bit tricky, but can anyone tell me how private my contact and calendar information is relative to the Google TOS? I installed Google Sky and the warning gave me pause to wonder how private my personal data was.
Anyway, that's it for now. Thanks in advance for your input.
