Newbie: IOS Notification Badges on Android?

[jimihat]

Hi All

I'm a brand new Android user following years of the dreaded Apple. I just picked up a Moto G with KitKat installed which I love; I love everything about it apart from one thing...the little bubble/badge next to email/facebook/sms icons showing the number of new items. I'm not allowed to post an image link yet as I'm a noob but if you google image search "ios notification badge" you should see some examples of what I mean.

I'm amazed that I don't have the little notification badge on my icons for Email, Whatsapp, Phone, and SMS etc. Is there any way of getting these?

My mum has an old galaxy and it has these badges; much older version of Android on it though (2.?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated; I've spent hours messing around with it (the phone that is...) but am getting nowhere slowly! I'm sure I'm just being a noob but would love some help.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to AF!

It's generally a feature of the launcher you're using.

I use Nova and coupled with Tesla unread, it has the option for notification badges (I don't use them though).

I know Apex Launcher has that function too.

OK thanks, I think the Moto G runs a fairly pure version of Android from what I've read. Does the Android loader itself not have any options as I'm really happy with it?

Thanks again

Not as far as I'm aware, Nova launcher is really close to the stock launcher though.

Take a look at some of the screenshots: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher

Thanks, I'll give Nova a whirl

I use Notifyer for that

You need to add a widget to your home screen for each app that you want a badge for. Touching the widget opens the relevant app like regular app shortcuts.

Yep, and here's a picture of it:
