Newbie locked out before even started

Newbie looking for help. Bought first tablet, ASUS MEMO 7" and was trying to set it up when it asked for me to select e-mail ID and it gave message that it would have to check Google to see if it was available. Next thing I knew I was locked out. It will turn on, but displays a padlock which does nothing but "explode" when I touch the screen. No instructions from ASUS or troubleshooting instructions. Can anyone help? This is my first contact with a tablet and so far its not successful.

When you say touch the screen, do you mean just a single touch?

It sounds like you're describing the lockscreen. Have you tried touching the padlock and dragging it to the side of the screen before releasing it? It should then unlock and allow you to use your tablet :)
