Suprise suprise a newbie needs help

Im J and ive just got my first android phone, a Galaxy S and i have to say i love it. But i cant seem to find the answers to some of my questions.

For example, why is it when i click on "SMS" to send a joke through a joke application it automatically turns it into an MMS? How do i stop this?

Why am i unable to copy and paste text?

Why do applications automatically run in the background even though i havent accessed them?

How do you exlude pictures from the gallery app?

I got loads more but that'll do for now. Thanks for any answer that you can give me.

I think you need to include a bit more detail.

What is the "joke" program you're using? My guess is it's program related

Where are you trying to cut and paste and what keyboard are you using (some have their own cut and paste features).

Some programs and services run at startup to speed access. Most will not have any adverse effect on your experience and should be left alone. If it's a carrier installed program that you don't use and would like to remove, you'll have to look into rooting the device. The best advice is that if they're not causing obvious trouble, leave them be.

As for the gallery, I've read (but never tried) that putting a empty text file named .nomedia (no extension) in a folder will eliminate the contents from being indexed by gallery or other media programs.
