Newbie needs some advice!

Ive seen some people with a similar problem as me but no answers that really help. I have a lg optimus l9 and the wifi gets stuck at "wifi turning on" now that is just the start - the phone looses charge after about 3 hours - even with a new battery. the whole phone is acting buggy but the wifi is the biggest issue for me. Now, if I rooted this phone and like installed something else? would this maybe fix my issue? and if so, does anyone have the time to walk me through that? I did see the strictly rooting area but I just don't get it lol. I got the phone for free because it wasnt working right so if I brick it - i wont be too bummed as its just sitting here anyways. But I was kinda hoping to get it working again!! THank you!!!

I don't think there is much u can do to improve battery life. I'm rooted and have cwm recovery with a locked boot loader. Battery life still sucks. I installed a locked boot loader ROM kumakan found over at xda. Battery life still sucks. I have tried various battery saving apps and still battery life sucks.

This is just a guess, but did you make sure to disable WiFi Calling?
